Route & Real-World Timing
Distance and drive time
- About 56.8 miles from Sidcup station to the Terminal 5 forecourt.
- Around 66 minutes on clear roads, meaning late at night, very early on a weekend, or a quiet bank holiday.
- At busier times we allow more. The table below shows what we plan for.
The road out of Sidcup
- A222 from Sidcup station towards the A20.
- A20 Sidcup Bypass heading south-east past Ruxley, through Crittall's Corner, to M25 Junction 3 (Swanley).
- M25 anticlockwise from J3: J4 Badgers Mount, J5 Sevenoaks (M26), J6 Godstone, J7 Merstham (M23), J8 Reigate, J9 Leatherhead, J10 Wisley (A3), J11 Chertsey, J12 Thorpe (M3), J13 Staines.
- Exit at J14 or J15, depending on the terminal your airline uses. Your driver checks the flight number before setting off.
Terminal exits
- T4 and T5: leave at J14 onto the A3113 Airport Way. Terminal 5 has its own spur, and Terminal 4 is signposted from the same exit.
- T2 and T3: carry on to J15, take the M4 east to Junction 4, then follow the airport spur through the central tunnel.
- Terminal 1 is closed, so if an old itinerary still mentions it, ask your airline which terminal you're now using.
Where the run usually slows down
None of these is unusual. They're the places that typically add minutes, and the times we quote already allow for them.
- Crittall's Corner (the A20/A211/A223 junction near Ruxley) and the A20 approach to J3 Swanley, mostly in the morning.
- J3 itself, where M20 traffic merges.
- J5, where the M26 joins and lanes shuffle.
- J6 to J7 and the M23 slip, in both rush hours.
- J8 Reigate Hill, where lorries slow the climb.
- J10 Wisley (A3), usually the slowest stretch on weekday mornings and Friday afternoons.
- J12 (M3 merge) and J13–J15 close to the airport during the morning peak.
- Coming home clockwise: from about 15:30 on weekdays, the Dartford Crossing queue often backs up past J2 towards J3. Sidcup is on the right side of that, so we leave at J3 and come back up the A20.
Our pickup buffers
These are the planning allowances we use for a Sidcup to Heathrow drop-off. They're not a guaranteed journey time.
| Departing Sidcup | Time we allow to the kerb |
|---|---|
| 22:00–05:30 | 70–75 min |
| 05:30–06:30 | 80–90 min |
| Weekday 06:30–09:30 | 100–110 min |
| Weekday 10:00–15:00 | 80–85 min |
| Weekday 15:30–19:00 | 100–110 min |
| Friday afternoons, summer Saturdays | 100–110 min |
For T2 or T3, add a few minutes for the M4 stretch and the tunnel.
Worked example: 10:30 departure from Terminal 3, a Thursday
- Suppose your airline asks you to arrive 3 hours before a long-haul flight. That puts you on the T3 forecourt by 07:30.
- Leaving Sidcup around 05:45 puts you in the 05:30–06:30 band. Because you'll reach J10 and J13–J15 as the morning peak builds, we use the top of the range plus the J15 detour.
- Suggested pickup: 05:45 from your door in Sidcup, giving you 1 hour 45 minutes to the kerb.
For the same flight from Terminal 5, a 05:50 pickup would normally do.
Heathrow Terminal Drop-Off Rules 2026
Getting onto each forecourt
- Terminal 2: turn off Constellation Way and go up the ramp.
- Terminal 3: take Cosmopolitan Way onto Camborne Road, which has 4 lanes.
- Terminal 4: take Stratford Road to 3 lanes at the top of the ramp.
- Terminal 5: take Wayfarer Road to 2 lanes at the top of the ramp. With only two lanes, T5 is the forecourt where you need to be quick.
- Terminal 1: closed.
What the charge is
- From 1 January 2026: £7 per visit, with a 10-minute maximum stay, at every terminal forecourt.
- It applies to taxis and private hire, not only to private cars.
How it's paid, and what happens if it isn't
- Payment is online through the APCOA portal or by phone on 0330 008 5600, by 23:59 the following day.
- There's no way to pay at the terminal.
- If nobody pays, the registered keeper gets an £80 PCN, reduced to £40 if paid within 14 days.
- The no-charge option is the Long Stay car parks, which give 30 minutes free, with a transfer bus to the terminal.
How we handle it
The £7 drop-off charge is included in your fare. We settle it, you get no separate bill, and there's no risk of a PCN arriving afterwards. Ten minutes is plenty of time to get the cases onto a trolley.
Blue Badge holders
The charge has a 100% discount for Blue Badge holders, but you have to apply in advance for each drop-off. Tell us when you book and we'll send the car's registration so you can apply.
When we collect you from arrivals
- Flight tracking is standard, so our pickup time moves with your actual landing time.
- 60 minutes' free waiting from touchdown, which covers immigration and baggage reclaim.
- A meet & greet name board is available on request.
Sidcup to Heathrow by Train: How It Compares
The rail route
All times are typical. Check National Rail and TfL on the day, as weekend engineering works often change the trains.
- Sidcup → London Bridge on the Southeastern Sidcup line: typically 25–30 min.
- London Bridge → Farringdon on Thameslink.
- Farringdon → Heathrow on the Elizabeth line westbound.
- Door to terminal: typically 1h40–2h, including the walk or bus to Sidcup station, two changes and the platform waits.
- Heathrow Express from Paddington takes about 15 min at a premium fare, but you'd have to get to Paddington first.
By car, the same trip is about 66 minutes on clear roads.
Cost per person in our cars
| Vehicle | Fixed fare | Passengers | Per head |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saloon (sedan) | £82 | 4 | £29.00 |
| Executive | £111 | 3 | £54.33 |
| MPV | £92 | 6 | £28.17 |
| 8-seater | £123 | 7 | £28.57 |
| 9-seater minibus | £131 | 8 | £26.13 |
When the car makes more sense
- Luggage: Thameslink at London Bridge and the Elizabeth line platforms at Farringdon are a long way to haul large cases, especially during the commuter rush.
- Early flights: if you need to be at the terminal by 06:00, you'd be leaving Sidcup before many of the trains you'd need are running. Our fare doesn't change with the hour.
- Families: child seats are free, and the children stay strapped in from your drive to the forecourt.
- Coming home late: if you land after the useful connections back to Sidcup have stopped, your driver is still there.
If you're travelling alone with hand luggage in the middle of the day, the train is a sensible option. For most other trips, the car is easier.

EU Entry/Exit System (EES): what travellers ask
How early should I get to a European airport for my flight home?
ABTA advises arriving at least two hours before departure, because the EES exit check can add time at busy airports.
My flight home might land late because of EES queues. What happens to my transfer?
Give your flight number when you book, so the driver can follow the actual landing time rather than the scheduled one.
Does EES registration cost anything?
No. EES registration is free and happens at the border. Be wary of websites that charge for "EES registration"; there is nothing to buy in advance.
Do I need ETIAS as well?
Not yet. ETIAS, the EU's separate online travel authorisation, has not launched, so there is nothing to apply for. The EU will announce a start date months in advance; until then, avoid websites that charge for it.
EES is the EU's digital border check for non-EU travellers, fully in use since April 2026. It is not a visa. Checked September 2026; rules can change, so see the EU Travel to Europe site before you travel.
