Getting out of Woolwich: what actually matters
Woolwich sits on the river, which shapes every journey. The A206 runs along the Thames, the A205 South Circular starts by the ferry approach, and the A102 to the Blackwall Tunnel is a short drive west. The Silvertown Tunnel is a second option, and any toll on the route is inside the fixed fare.
London City Airport is just across the river, and the driver picks the quickest crossing on the day. For Heathrow the route runs along the South Circular or through the centre; for Stansted and Luton it goes through the tunnel and north on the A12, the M11 or the A406.
The Elizabeth line has made Woolwich much quicker for Heathrow by train, but with heavy luggage, children or a dawn flight a pre-booked car is still the easier option: a fixed price, a named driver and a pickup time agreed the day before.
