Lewisham to Gatwick Airport Taxi

Landing at Gatwick Airport? Let us take the stress off

Your driver is waiting with a name board the moment you come through customs into arrivals – not in a car park, not on the phone. We track the flight, so a late landing costs you nothing, and the first 60 minutes after the plane lands are free waiting time. Luggage trolleys, a child seat, a wheelchair-friendly car: tell us when you book and it is ready.

SIM card and money on the way. Still carrying your own currency? That is fine: every car takes cards and contactless, so you need no pounds in hand for the journey. If you want a UK SIM or some cash, say so and your driver will point you to the kiosks in arrivals (SIM cards: WHSmith and Sim Local in both terminals’ arrivals; currency: Travelex / Moneycorp desks landside in North and South) or, usually cheaper, stop at a supermarket, Post Office or bank on the route. Our local drivers know where the fair rates and the working cash machines are – trust them to sort it in minutes.

Disabled-friendly arrival. Special assistance: Book via airline at least 48h ahead; Assisted Travel receptions at drop-off points, help points at bus stops, entrances, Short Stay car parks, check-in, pre-security and departure lounge; Eagle Hoist with 24h notice. Step-free: Most gates via airbridges; Ambulift where stairs; lifts to station platforms; Premium car parks same-level access. Guide & assistance dogs: Only assistance dogs allowed in terminals; notify airline 48h; Service Animal Spend Area via the Assisted Travel team. Pets: Dogs flying must meet the PETS scheme. Airport accessibility page Our driver meets you at the assistance desk if you prefer, carries folding wheelchairs and walkers free, and assistance dogs always travel with you at no charge.

The journey

How we get from Lewisham to Gatwick

From Lewisham the usual route is the A21 through Catford and Bromley to the M25, or across to Croydon and down the A23 to the M23.

The M23 carries you south to Junction 9, where the airport spur splits for the North and South Terminals. We check your terminal from the flight number.

  • About 29 miles, usually 45–65 min
  • The Gatwick drop-off charge included in the fixed fare
  • The driver checks traffic before setting off and picks the quicker route
  • Same price day or night, no surge
Get the timing right

Timing your Gatwick flight from Lewisham

Gatwick suggests arriving two hours before European flights and three before long-haul. The M23 is usually reliable; the M25 and the Croydon roads are where time goes.

Early departures

At 04:00–05:00 the run is close to the quick end of the range.

Morning peak

Croydon and the M25 slow from 07:00. Allow the full journey time and a little more.

Summer Saturdays

Holiday traffic on the M23 builds early. Leave 20 minutes sooner than you think.

Give us your flight number and we set the pickup time and confirm it by text. Night and early-morning pickups cost the same as daytime ones.

Pre-booked vs app vs train

Is a pre-booked car worth it from Lewisham?

By public transport you would start at Lewisham station and travel with a change at East Croydon, London Bridge or Victoria for the Gatwick train. It works for one person with light luggage in the daytime, but it usually means at least one change with cases, and the first trains do not suit early departures.

App cars are least predictable exactly when airport runs need them: early in the morning and at peak times, when surge pricing can take a 29-mile trip well above our fixed £70.

With us the job goes to a named driver confirmed the evening before, the price is agreed in writing and cannot change, and airport charges are already handled.

  • Fixed fare agreed before you travel
  • Saloon (sedan), executive, MPV, 8-seater or 9-seater minibus
  • Free child seats and boosters
  • Card, cash or invoice with nothing added
  • Licensed, DBS-checked drivers
Landing at Gatwick

Coming home from Gatwick to Lewisham

We track your flight and send the driver for the real landing time, not the schedule, so early arrivals and delays are covered without a phone call.

Your 60 minutes' free waiting starts at touchdown. If passport control or baggage reclaim is slow, message the driver and we wait.

The run home is the same route in reverse, dropping you at your door in Lewisham or anywhere in Lewisham town centre, Ladywell, Hither Green, Lee, Blackheath and Brockley.

Good to know

Lewisham to Gatwick Airport taxi — questions

How much is a taxi from Lewisham to Gatwick Airport?

From £70 one way in a saloon (sedan) for up to four passengers, fixed when you book. An executive car is from £95, an MPV from £79, an 8-seater from £106 and a 9-seater minibus from £112. The Gatwick drop-off charge is included.

How long does it take to get from Lewisham to Gatwick Airport?

Usually 45–65 min for about 29 miles. Early mornings are at the quick end, weekday peaks at the slow end, and we plan your pickup with that margin.

Which terminal will you drop me at?

The one your airline uses. We check it from your flight number, and the Gatwick drop-off charge is included.

Can you pick me up from Gatwick Airport and take me to Lewisham?

Yes, at any hour. Give us your flight number and we track it, with 60 minutes' free waiting from touchdown.

Are child seats and larger vehicles available?

Yes. Child seats and boosters are free, and we have MPVs, 8-seaters and 9-seater minibuses, plus executive Mercedes cars. Tell us when you book.

Is the price fixed from Lewisham?

Yes. The fare is agreed before you travel and does not change with traffic, the time of day or delays at the airport.

EES and your airport transfer

How early should I get to a European airport for my flight home?

ABTA advises arriving at least two hours before departure, because the EES exit check can add time at busy airports.

My flight home might land late because of EES queues. What happens to my transfer?

Give your flight number when you book, so the driver can follow the actual landing time rather than the scheduled one.

How does EES affect the 90/180-day rule?

EES records every entry and exit digitally instead of relying on passport stamps, so days spent in the Schengen area are counted automatically and overstays are flagged.

Do I need ETIAS as well?

Not yet. ETIAS, the EU's separate online travel authorisation, has not launched, so there is nothing to apply for. The EU will announce a start date months in advance; until then, avoid websites that charge for it.

EES is the EU's digital border check for non-EU travellers, fully in use since April 2026. It is not a visa. Checked September 2026; rules can change, so see the EU Travel to Europe site before you travel.

How to choose. Public transport wins on price for one traveller with hand luggage at 10am. A taxi usually wins when there are two or more of you (one fare for the car, not per person), when you have hold bags or a pushchair, for flights before the first train arrives or landings after the last one leaves, and when a change of train or a station without lifts would be a problem. Rail fares above are per adult; add £4–£6 per person for the DART/shuttle where shown, and remember engineering work most weekends.
